FORMER child star and Charlie's Angels actress Drew Barrymore has been named top of People magazine's annual Most Beautiful list.

The 32-year-old actress, who shot to fame when she appeared in Steven Spielberg's ET: The Extra-Terrestrial in 1982, nudged out the likes of Australian Nicole Kidman, Angelina Jolie and Julia Roberts to take top spot.

Barrymore graces the cover of the magazine's latest issue, released in the US tomorrow, just days before the release of her new film Lucky You from Warner Bros, part of the same media group as People.

Barrymore, who has been included on People's Most Beautiful list on four previous occasions, credits her success with inner happiness.

"I just think happiness is what makes you pretty. Period," she says in an interview with the magazine.

"Happy people are beautiful. They become like a mirror and they reflect that happiness."

Being named top of People's Most Beautiful list "made my peacock feathers shine in the golden-hour light and extend to the heavens", Barrymore tells the magazine.

Australian actor Eric Bana, Barrrymore's co-star in Lucky You, also made the list.

"People in L.A. look too good to me. It's important to keep flaws," the 38-year-old tells People.

He says his best look comes purely by accident.

"I look my best when I take my helmet off after a long motorcycle ride. I have a glow and a bit of helmet hair."

Malawi awaits Madonna's return

Malawi awaits Madonna's return

Malawi is preparing for a return visit by pop star Madonna, whose efforts to adopt a Malawian toddler last fall sparked an international controversy.

The singer's New York-based publicist, Liz Rosenberg, said Madonna was going to Africa to continue her work with the Raising Malawi organization, which supports the country's many AIDS orphans. She denied rumors that she is going to adopt another child.

"She is overseeing the building of a children's health care center. She is absolutely not adopting another baby," Rosenberg said in a statement.

Sources at Kumbali Lodge, the tree-covered ranch in the capital, Lilongwe, where Madonna and her entourage stayed last year, said her security team has arrived. She was expected on Monday.

Madonna, 48, and her filmmaker husband Guy Ritchie were granted an interim court order on Oct. 12 allowing them to take initial custody of then 14-month-old David.

Rights groups have said they are concerned the government cut legal corners to fast-track the adoption. Malawi regulations stipulate that prospective parents undergo an 18- to 24-month assessment period in the country. But Madonna and Ritchie were allowed to take David to their London home, which Malawian child welfare officials will visit twice to monitor the family.

Yacinta Chapomba, a director of local aid group Consol Homes, which has been involved with Madonna's organization in the building of a children's care center, said an official opening ceremony would be held at the center on Monday. She could not confirm whether the star would attend.

The center in the impoverished village of Mphandula, 30 miles outside Lilongwe, will initially house 400 children who lost their parents to AIDS.

The orphanages and care centers Madonna is involved with have been freshly painted and spruced up while security around the exclusive lodge where she stayed last year has been tightened.

Madonna's last visit was shrouded in secrecy and the star made no comment to reporters but was seen singing and dancing with children at orphanages.

Drew Barrymore Named New Face of CoverGirl

Drew Barrymore has stepped into some pretty adult shoes. She joins the ranks of Cheryl Tiegs, Rachel Hunter, Christie Brinkley, and Tyra Banks to become the newest face of CoverGirl cosmetics.

Wednesday's announcement was made in Los Angeles where the 32-year-old actress has just wrapped up the CoverGirl spots that will appear in TV and print ads starting January 2008. Dressed in a canary yellow Carolina Herrera shift dress and grass green Christian Louboutin heels, the "Charlie's Angels" actress seemed to glow from the attention.

"I am honored to be associated with a brand that has been at the forefront of their industry for almost 55 years," Barrymore said in a release. "CoverGirl had managed to change with the times, yet stay in touch with women of all ages and backgrounds."

In a first for the Proctor & Gamble-owned brand, a cover girl will go behind the camera to direct the commercial, a first for the child star, as well. Barrymore owns her own production company, Flower Films, but has never directed an advertising commercial before. Her production hits include "Fifty First Dates," "Never Been Kissed," and "Charlie's Angels."

"Drew is a wonderful addition to the CoverGirl family and her role - both in front of the camera and behind the scenes as co-creative director - is new and different for the cosmetics industry," noted Esi Eggleston Bracey, vice president and general manager for CoverGirl Cosmetics.

Despite having a bit of a bumpy adolescence growing up as a child star in Hollywood, Barrymore has been recognized for her work as an avid volunteer with the United Nations World Food Program and directed a documentary about the importance of youth voting in 2004.

Britney begins work on new album

Britney begins work on new album

A music producer working with Britney Spears says the troubled pop star's new album is "like Toxic times 10".

Music producer Sean Garrett - who has worked with Beyonce Knowles, Jennifer Lopez and Mary J Blige - is masterminding the troubled singer's comeback record and thinks it will be "exceptional".

Garrett said: "I'm working with Britney.
"It's really coming together right now. I know she'll do exceptionally well now that she's out of rehab.

"The new album is like Toxic times 10. It's going to be a lot of fun and it's really exciting. We did a lot of great work before her break."

Britney, 25, and the producer had worked on five tracks for the new record before she entered Malibu's Promises rehab centre on February 20.

After checking out of the centre, Britney seems to have tamed her wild partying.

Garrett said: Britney is a superstar. She definitely knows how to handle herself, but it's tough sometimes. The pressure sometimes gets to you, but I think she has done such a great job keeping her composure under the circumstances."

"I am so emotional ... as soon as I saw the crowds of people and friends here, I started to cry," she said.

Berry won the best actress Academy Award in 2001 for her role alongside Billy Bob Thornton in "Monster's Ball." She won an Emmy and a Golden Globe for her title role in "Introducing Dorothy Dandridge."

Berry, 40, co-stars with Bruce Willis in the upcoming film, "Perfect Stranger," which opens April 13.

She may have taken the Miss USA title in 2004, but Shandi Finnessey won't be crowned the winner of "Dancing With the Stars." After ranking in the bottom two last week, Finnessey was eliminated Tuesday from the ABC dance-off. The game show host and former beauty queen said that her experience on the show was "amazing" and that working with her professional dance partner, Brian Fortuna, was "great."

"I just hope I didn't disappoint him," she said.
Despite high marks from the judges, Leeza Gibbons narrowly escaped elimination Tuesday. She and her partner, Tony Dovolani, also placed in the bottom two.

"The elimination is nerve-racking," she said. "It's insane."

Billy Ray Cyrus echoed that sentiment, calling results night "a real freak show." He added that all the dancing he's done has left him with "an achy, breaky butt."

Each week, judges' scores are combined with viewer votes to determine which couple will be eliminated.

Clyde Drexler earned the lowest score — 16 points out of 30 — but was kept afloat by fans.
Tuesday's results show also featured performances by Ciara, Josh Groban and the band Survivor, which played its 1982 hit "Eye of the Tiger."

Paulina Porizkova has already been eliminated. The remaining celebrity dancers are Gibbons, Cyrus, Drexler, Ian Ziering, Joey Fatone, Laila Ali, John Ratzenberger, Heather Mills and Apolo Anton Ohno. Each will perform the paso doble or the waltz on Monday's show.
